Breaking Free

I've been struggling with my office job for a while. I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed the work or if I ever did enjoy it for that matter. It doesn't excite me and it doesn't really stimulate me. It can be stressful at times and it can be painfully boring at times. I don’t have any passion for it. I've always heard and read that you should do something you're passionate about and I'm sure what I'm doing is a passion for some people but unfortunately it’s not for me.

Friday April 8th 2016 is Ireland's second National Workplace Wellbeing Day. I’ve written previously about Promoting Workplace Wellness and about how both employers and employees can play their part in promoting a positive work environment so I’m delighted to help spread the word about this event as ultimately this day represents everything that this blog is about: Promoting health and wellbeing to sedentary workers.

Great news for the economy and the country in general but not such good news for your liver or your belly. Christmas Day and the days surrounding it are often a write off for many of us with food, drinks and extreme laziness top of the agenda for the majority. Not a whole lot wrong with that, it’s Christmas after all. What if we took our foot off the gas just a little in the lead up to it though? Wouldn't that be a big help?

Prescription for Happiness

A companywide change of health insurance provider at the beginning of the year has seen our new partner provide a number of health and wellbeing related talks throughout the year. The latest of these was delivered by Dr Mark Rowe and the subject was his ‘Prescription for Happiness’. Being a big fan of positivity and happiness in general, I was interested to hear what the good doctor had to say.

Positive Work Environment - Employer Role

Last week I spoke about what employees can do to promote a positive environment at their workplace. This week I want to highlight the role the employer plays in providing and supporting a positive environment for everyone to be.

A positive workplace can mean the difference between success and failure for a business. Good relationships amongst employees can lead to improved teamwork and, in turn, to a more responsive service for customers.
